# Dashboard

> Use Dashboard to orient to current work in Vala.

## Overview

Dashboard is the Vala workspace for reviewing information relevant to your current work. A Client record also opens on its own <strong>Dashboard</strong> tab.

## When to use

Use Dashboard when you need to orient to your work before opening a specific workspace or Client record.

## Prerequisites

* An active Vala account
* Access to the correct organization

## Step-by-step

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Dashboard">Select <strong>Dashboard</strong> from the global navigation.</Step>
  <Step title="Review the available information">Use the information shown for your role and organization to decide which workspace to open next.</Step>
  <Step title="Open the relevant work">Continue to Contacts, Claims, Tasks, Notes, Calendar, or another workspace that matches the item you need to address.</Step>
</Steps>

## Best practices

* Confirm context before acting on an item from Dashboard.
* Use a Client's <strong>Dashboard</strong> tab for client-specific work.
* Verify source records before relying on consequential information.

## Common mistakes

* Treating Dashboard as a substitute for the source record
* Assuming every role sees the same information
* Continuing work without confirming the Client or Claim context
